THE SCHOOL SYSTEM IN ITALY

In Italy schools starts with kindergarten (chidrens aged 3-5) that can be public or private . Generally the time-school is estimated at 8 hours a day, for a total of 40 week.  Usually there is a canteen, even the time of the meal is an educational activity. In kindergarten there can be a different number of sections (but usually three), depending on the number of children enrolled. In each section the maximum number of students is 25, raised to 28 in special cases, but reduced to 20, maximum 23, if disabled students are enrolled.  In state schools the day is covered by two teachers who are working in co-presence for a few hours . There is, for an hour and a half per week per section, also a teacher of Catholic religion, if families agree.

PRIMARY SCHOOL

"The purpose of the first cycle of education is the promotion of personal development. To build the school competes with other institutions to remove all obstacles to the frequency; care accessibility for pupils with disabilities; prevents the escape of 'compulsory education and the scattering contrast, pursues every means to improve the quality of the education system. In this perspective the school accompanies the students in developing a sense of their experience, promotes informed the practice of active citizenship and the acquisition alphabets of the basic culture. "  In connection with that purpose it should :
promote active citizenship, acquisition of the basic language and culture- accompany the student processing the value of his experience- pursuing the improvement of educational system-prevent school dropping -combat early school leaving- cure , take pleasure working alone and ask for help, be confident and trust people

THE  SECONDARY SCHOOL REFORM

With the reform of the  cycles, that just took place, the students will complete high school at 18 and not any more at 19 as it is now. They will enter university or higher technical education with a year earlier. At the place of the existing elementary schools and secondary schools, there will be 2 cycles: 7 years of basic school, secondary school for 5 years. "After the first cycle students can choose from 5 addresses: classical-humanistic, scientific, technical and technological art, music.

As for  Professional (vocational ) schools with reform they acquire a new identity, based on the culture of economic and productive sectors of national importance that characterize the 2 key areas, Services and Industry and Handicrafts, which includes the 6 addresses. All training courses lasting five years and are divided into two year periods and in a fifth year, after which students take the examination for the diploma of vocational education. The new vocational schools have a legal system very flexible to interact with the territorial and productive systems to meet the needs of the labor and the professions in a "Glocal" dimension, permanently open to innovation. The diploma allows immediate access to employment and / or continue their studies at any university faculty, as well as in vocational education and higher technical education, also at the technical colleges. Vocational schools also may play a complementary and supplementary role to the system of vocational education and training at the regional and continue to organize, under the subsidiarity in the framework of agreements with the regions, paths for the attainment of qualifications and three years a four-year professional degrees. To enhance the language skills of students in colleges and technical institutes it is expected to teach a curriculum subject in a foreign language among those provided by the curriculum (CLIL, Content and Language Integrated Learning).

IIS IPSIA "Ezio Aletti" ITI in the last two years has undergone some changes . The School name changes since now we are also a technical school for some courses (chenistry-biology) .
An aspect of innovation of cycles reorganization are the fruitful collaborations with the working world and with companies and industry to manage students’ learning in a working context . Our school priority is to set more fruitful collaborations with the working world and business sector in order to manage student learning in a work-related learning context .The work-related learning path aims to strengthen the ties of educational institutions with the working world, to empower students by giving them the opportunity to experience the business directly in the company. This is the most complete experience since students become the protagonists and they are required to demonstrate responsibility. Our school has set forty different agreement with the territory for the different fields of study.

There are three fields of study due to the recent reorganization of the cycles of vocational schools in Italy : hotel course and  "services for enogastronomy and hotel hospitality", electrical course and " services for the maintenance and technical assistance"  chemistry-biology course and "industrial production and craft” . Aletti is a great school because offers you job opportunities during the 5 years course. Our class 2 I is an enogastronomic course and next year we have to choose between service or cookery course. At the end of the 3rd year there is an exam to take to get a certificate of operator in enogastronomy and that allows us to go straight to work.

At the fifth year there is  the state exam with the release of the diploma. Our school is very suitable for those who want to work now and in the right way. In fact, we students of the course thanks to service and chef teacher  who recommend us to hotel and restaurants that ask for our references to the school , that is directly to our teachers, have the chance to start working the all summer and for special catering events like weddings. From the third year course we start internship by establisment (hotel , restaurants) out of our region  for two weeks in Italy  but also abroad with European finacing with special projects and so we learn about the meaning of two words: commitment and responsability.
Our institute is well equipped,  it has 1 hall and two kitchens where we do our training .We often organize lunches for meetings, events, parties and events where  where one class the service clas service the guests and the other class the cooking class, cooks the meal.

We have classes 6 days a week from Monday to Saturday. The school hours are 32 :-6 hours of Italian literature-4 hours of mathematics-4 hours of service / kitchen-3 hours of English-1 hour of religion (optional)-2 hours of chemical-2 hours of French-2 hours of physical education-2 hours of reception-2 hours of biology-2 hours of law-2 hours of nutrition. The lesson start at 8:00 am and end at 1:00 pm except on Mondays and Thursdays when we we stay until 2 p.m..
If we  surpass the 264 hours of absences we could be in danger of  failing the school year unless you have  valid medical certificates . Our school has 2 rooms, 3 kitchens, 1 fitness room, 2 courtyards, several entrances, 38 classrooms, 650 students more than 80 teachers.

School organizes football tournaments and volleyball tournaments against other secondary schools in  Trebisacce  and .We have done several projects including commenius , etwinning where we won the first European etwinning prize in 2009 in Prague with the pizza project, grundtvig for adults, school projects on  today's teenagers problems, music projects where we play at special events and at the end of the school year with our families coming to see what we do at school and how good we are.
